This piece is one of a kind. It is sturdy and well adhered.
This cave is designed specifically for hermit crabs, using all hermit crab safe items.
This cave will accommodate small to large crabs!
The base piece is made of ceramic! It started as an oddly shaped flower pot that I made year ago with food safe glaze. It has two large oval openings on one one end; the other end is broken open, now creating a tunnel exit that will accommodate small crabs.
I've used a dremel to sand down any sharp places around the break or in the glaze.
I've added a coir mat hemmed in jute as a climbing wall.
There is a poplar wood bridge spanning the length of the structure, secured together with sisal.
There is a short birch wood ladder attached directly to the ceramic.
Sisal crocheted paths are laid down inside the caves for easy climbing.
There are 2 conk mushrooms, and these are special because slate rock is naturally embedded into the tops of these conks.
A birch wood round is used as a platform, with a bear brand burned into the wood.
Upcycled aquarium plants are used, as well as Alaskan sphanum moss from above the Arctic Circle.
There is a mossy Alder wood stick near the substrate.
The small crab exit has a door frame shape made from birch wood.
All wood near the substrate has been sealed with silicone where wicking moisture is a risk.
Hot glue and 100% silicone are the adhesives.
